RESULTS FROM 2018’s LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Funding and positions to support EOEL’s and the Early Learning Board’s work:
- $133,816 for two permanent positions and administrative/operating funds for EOEL and the Early Learning Board; and
- $20,000 for a one-stop online platform through which EOEL Public Prekindergarten Program teachers and principals across the state, even in rural areas, can participate virtually in professional learning sessions, access important materials, and communicate face-to-face with their peers and mentors – what is key to improving instruction and implementing a high-quality pre-kindergarten program.
(H.B. No. 1900 enacted as Act 53, Session Laws of Hawaii 2018)
Further clarification that EOEL is responsible for public prekindergarten, but that HIDOE retains its ability to administer special education and Title I-funded (for children from lower-income families) programs at the prekindergarten level.
(Note: Subsequent clarification may be needed.)
(H.B. No. 2507 enacted as Act 175, Regular Session of 2018)
